Back-to-school vehicle readiness should include the following:
1. Check fluids:
Coolant (especially in Texas heat)
Windshield fluid to ensure visibility
2. Wiper Blades
3. Battery Test
4. Check Belts
5. Check Lights: Functioning lights ensures a driver can properly communicate with other vehicles increasing
safety.
Blinkers
Headlamps
Brake lights
Emergency warning lights (hazard lights)
6. Inspect Tires
Correct pressure
Tread wear
Nails or punctures
Emergency essentials:
Trunk: spare tire, reflective triangles, jack and tire iron (If your student has not changed a tire before
it might be a good idea to review how to change a tire or who to call for help)
Glove box: cell phone charger, roadside assistance number, car manual
